NCRF conducts capacity building for children to participate in decision making processes, demand delivery of their rights
Petauke, 25 June 2023: The National Child Rights Forum (NCRF) through Panos Institute Southern Africa conducted capacity building for children at Mizyu Primary School in Petauke district, Eastern province to orient them on child rights, and enhance their participation in decision making processes and demand delivery of their rights by leaders. The training, held on June 25th, 2023 at Mizyu Primary School attended by 20 pupils in various grades, is part of the NCRF’s interventions supported by Save the Children through funding from Sweden under the SIDA CSO 2022 – 2026 programme to advance children’s rights in Zambia.
The occasion enabled the children to learn about their rights, entitlements and responsibilities as guaranteed by the various child rights instruments which include the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, African Charter on Rights and Welfare of the Child and the Children’s Code Act. It also positioned them to not only amplify their voices that affect or concern them using various means that include radio and physical dialogue meetings but also demand service delivery by leaders for the realisation of children’s rights.
As a member of the NCRF and a communication for development organisation that works to amplify voices of the poor and marginalized to shape the development agenda, Panos is confident that this empowerment of children on their rights and provision of opportunities to demand delivery of their rights will leads to inclusive development, leaving no one behind. By educating young people about their rights and entitlements, the foundation is set for a brighter future, where children are aware, informed, and actively engaged in shaping a society that upholds their rights and nurtures their potential.
